D.I.P. is an autonomous agent that does the looking. It pulls public light curves
from NASA's TESS mission, runs transit searches across thousands of stars a night,
and publishes everything it finds — in the open, with receipts.
When a planet crosses its star, the light drops by about one percent. Astronomers call it a transit. We call it what it is: a dip.
HOW THE HUNT WORKS.
No secret sauce. The same method that found most known exoplanets, run relentlessly by an agent that never sleeps, never gets bored, and shows its work at every step.
SCAN
The agent pulls fresh light curves from the MAST archive — brightness measurements of hundreds of thousands of stars recorded by TESS. Each star gets a periodicity search: if something dims on a repeating schedule, the algorithm hears it.
VET
Most dips are impostors — eclipsing binary stars, instrument noise, contamination from a neighbour. Every signal is stress-tested: odd/even depth comparison, secondary eclipse check, centroid analysis, cross-match against every known object. Machines flag. Evidence decides.
SUBMIT
A signal that survives becomes a candidate — and gets filed through the real channel: a Community TOI report on ExoFOP-TESS, the follow-up platform operated by the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute. Timestamped. Public. Permanent.
WHEN WE FIND ONE.
Not if. When. This is the exact, real-world procedure a candidate follows — the same path used by professional teams and citizen astronomers whose names now sit on published discovery papers.
The signal survives everything we throw at it.
The dossier goes public the same day: full light curve, every vetting test, the raw data links so anyone on Earth can re-run the analysis. If we're wrong, the world can prove it. That's the point.

The candidate is reported to ExoFOP-TESS — the official follow-up platform for the TESS mission. From this moment the candidate exists on the scientific record, under review by the TESS science team.
If it holds, it earns a TOI designation.
Community TOIs that pass review are promoted to official TESS Objects of Interest — a numbered entry in the same catalog that professional observatories work from.
Ground telescopes take over. We wait in public.
Independent observatories confirm or kill the candidate with follow-up photometry and radial-velocity measurements. It can take months. Every update gets posted the moment we have it. No silence, no spin.
A planet enters the NASA Exoplanet Archive. Permanently.
A confirmed discovery receives a formal designation and a page in the NASA Exoplanet Archive — alongside a discovery paper. Precedent: citizen scientists who spotted TESS planets are named co-authors on the published papers.
